DON’T Fake it Till You Make it…

Don’t worry-we were legitimately happy in this fake football stadium pic (thank you Rose Bowl photo op backdrop). But what about the times when you’re not happy? What if those “times” turn into seasons? What if those “seasons” turn another difficult season and the thought that it may never change enters in?

At this point in the post I could recommend a counselor (great idea when you have a great counselor), marriage retreats (can be helpful), pastoral counseling (depends on the issue and the pastor), date nights (might be sketchy in certain conditions but I’m generally all for them) or all of the above.

Can I offer you something else? It’s not a sexy solution nor is it highly sophisticated. However, when done in faith and in the power of the Holy Spirit it is life changing and the lifeline to your marriage.

It is PRAYER. Not a wishful request to God, not an “if it’s your will to heal my marriage” (trust me, it is) nor a “prayer” in the form of all the things you hate about your spouse. I’m talking about finding EVERY promise in God’s word about your marriage AND what your spouse (or you) needs to become whole, setting your face like flint (isa 50:7) towards them as you pray every single one and praying with expectancy that God is going to answer you. Why will He answer you? Because you are praying His will and you are asking in His name (Jn 14:14).

Will you have to pray for a long time? Possibly. Will you need to keep asking God to renew your faith? Probably. Will you need to get outside help? Don’t discount it! But don’t underestimate the power of faith filled prayer.

You may be suffering in silence and isolation, appearing to most people like you are happy and in love when your marriage is suffering. But God sees you and your marriage. You can’t fool Him. He knows everything that’s going on and He’s ready to intervene. He’s for you. He’s for your marriage.
